TheThe Importance of Advertising

                                               Advertising

The benefits of advertising:
-Customer information
Advertisement about new products keeps the customer informed about the new developments in the industry. They help to provide them information regarding the newly launched products.

-Taking care of the customers
Advertising takes care of customers. It helps in holding on to the loyal customer, decreasing the number of lost customers and enlisting new customers. Thus the overall effect of advertising is increase in the number of customers that will gradually become loyal to the product.

 -Sales improvement
Advertising facilitates a noticeable increase in the sale of the product. It thus helps reduces per unit cost of the product and help the businesses to earn profits.

 -Attitude alterations
An effectual advertisement results in a swift change in the attitudes and habits of the people.

 -Communication direction
In earlier days customers believed on the opinions of retailers, when making the purchases of products. With the rapid spread of media and advertising to every nook and corner of the world, people have become aware of the various products that are available in the same category and the freebees and benefits of purchasing them. So the companies or manufacturers are able to communicate their message directly to the customers.

-Employment increase
Advertising is a complicated task and a lot of people are involved in the making of an advertisement. Research team, design team and many other people are required to make and deliver it. So, advertisements generate employment for a lot of people.

Aim: To consider how magazine staff are divided in terms of their skill. To identify which skills are needed to do perticular publishing jobs in the publishing industry.

                                  Publishing sector in the UK

-The publishing industry employs over 195,000 people, representing  approximately 36% of the creative media workforce.

-51,000 people employed in the newspaper sector.

-5.500 work in journals and magazines.

- 33,000 in the book industry.

-12,000 in the other information service activities.

-Found in NME's and MOJO's job lists in NME and MOJO magazines.

The magazine I compared this with was MOJO magazine, the jobs listed are different because MOJO had more editors, therefore making it more
thought out.

What do you think are the responsibilities of a chief editor?

The chief editors job is to make sure that the editors are making the right decisions when they edit magazines and to "edit" the editors edits if they edit wrong.
The chief editor is the "face of the story" and is mentioned in the magazine, they also choose what theme they will use this episode.
Chief editors also have to keep an eye on things like budget, staff, meetings and also have to publish an editorial calendar and they have to follow PCC guidelines.
Chief editors have to also: build up contacts and connections, liase with publisher, marketing depth, media sales team, PR agencies and attend awards ceremonies as well.
